Young and Talented School of Stage and Screen
Young and Talented School of Stage and Screen is a theatre school in London, England, where children aged 6 to 16 can participate in acting, singing and dancing classes.
The Young and Talented School of Stage and Screen’s founder and principal is actress and director Suzann Robinson, who trained at the Italia Conti Academy of Theatre Arts. Young and Talented is based at Oxford House in Bethnal Green. The school also held classes in West Norwood. Claire Rudd describes the school as being one "which helps young people's personal development through performing arts". The school was described by Muslim Weekly newspaper as a place where young people have the opportunity "to express themselves as individuals" in an environment that creates a positive mindset. Ebony Business Recognition Award 2013 awarded Young and Talented in the category of '"Entertainment and Leisure".
The Young and Talented Rep Company has been running since 2011, it is a subsidiary of Young and Talented School of Stage and Screen. Aimed at 14 to 25 year olds, it coach’s young actors in the fundamental skills required to become a professional actor. Actors have gone on to appear in TV Dramas, BAFTA winning comedies, West End Musicals and British Films.
A group of children from Young and Talented performed on the Sport Relief does Glee Club television show in early 2012, with their group The Real Deal described by judge Carrie Grant in one performance as "a masterclass in soloists – amazing". In October 2013 The Real Deal won the semifinals of The Jack Petchey Glee Club Challenge 2013 in the Second London Regional Semifinals. The final will be held at the IndigO2 Arena in London where The Real Deal will compete to win this year's Challenge.
Reece Buttery, a member of Young and Talented, will star as Mo in the 2013 CBBC children's drama The Dumping Ground. His father said "I am proud of him and humbled by the tutoring he gets from Suzann Robinson, director of Young and Talented, and the other mentors."
Y&T Rep Company produces plays for young actors for young audiences. Their production of "The Killing Class, written by David Fielding, sold out six performances over three weekends. In December 2012 Y&T Rep Company produced "Cinderella Init! and in the summer of 2013 they had their third production "Jayden's War'.
In December 2013 Y&T member Reece Buttery was the lead in the BBC One's Comedy Boxing Day film "Gangsta Granny". Adam Barnett says: "A non-profit stage school for young people in East London will see its budding stars appear on TV over Christmas and into the new year."
