Zeyrek is part of the Fatih district of Istanbul. It overlooks the Golden Horn, and got its name from the mosque of Zeyrek.<ref name=ey59>Eyice (1955), p. 59</ref> It hosts also several Byzantine cisterns and the little ?eyh Süleyman Mosque, also of Byzantine origin. <ref name=mw202>Müller-Wiener (1976), p. 202</ref> It is a picturesque but poor neighborhood.

The center of Zeyrek is on the World Heritage list as part of the Historic Areas of Istanbul, the World Heritage site.
